Here we go:

Arya hiding near dragon skulls in the red keep, Varys ascends from the pit with Mopatis and are talking about sending Westeros into war, but it is happening too quickly. So Varys is helping him.

Mopatis gives Dany 3 (of all numbers) dragon eggs, knowing full well who she is.

Varys hates sorcery in all forms.

A return of dragons means a return of magic.

Why would he help Mopatis bring back dragons?

Well, IMO we can believe little of what Varys says. He tailors his conversations and even his appearance to suit his needs and is able to change how he is perceived so that he will be either more credible or less threatening, maybe both. I'm not even convinced that Varys is a eunuch to be honest.

I think Dany is given the eggs because Ilyrio knows that she will be able to "hatch" thm and they will help return the Targs to power. Varys is called a "sorcerer" tiwce if I'm remembering correctly during that conversation.

I don't think there's any logical problem with any of this, and I do think that much about Varys has not yet been revealed.

TPA, I'm in agreement with the Imp. We don't have a shred of collaboration regarding Varys' youth... we only have a tale that he told Tyrion. Is Varys really a eunuch? Has Varys really served since the days of King Jahaerys II or even since Aegon V? Is he really just that good at changing his appearance with disguises or could he have been trained in the House of Black and White? Why is he the only non-Targaryen (off the top of my head) whose name sounds like a Targaryen name?

Does Varys serve Illyrio or does he pretend to?
