Just stumbled upon the name on fantastic fiction-he wrote the Amtrak Wars books. Question are they any good, and is his other stuff worth looking for?

There are six books in the Amtrak Wars and i am led to believe that the series has yet to be finished. Personally, I really enjoyed them. Try one and see how you get on.

I also vaguely remember reading a book by him called Fade Out, but cannot remember whether i enjoyed it or not.)

I know Werthead has read some of these and been fairly positive in his opinions.

Hopefully he can post something about them here.

Like Gail Z. Martin, it's a name (and in this case more the series name) I'm always seeing in the local SFF shops here.

I read the first three Amtrak Wars books. They did have some good bits, but not enough that I wanted to read three more books to find out what happened (and I've since heard the plot wasn't resolved in the final book which doesn't encourage me to pick them up again). There were some interesting ideas here and there, but I found the various characters to be either annoying or dull and if I'm going to read a long series I'd like to have at least some interest in what happens to the characters in it.

I read Fade Out a long time ago, from what I remember I liked the story, an entertaining first-contact story with an intriguing central mystery.

I've read in order books 3, 4, 2 and 5 - and would read the missing two as well if I'd get them from somewhere. Nice post-apocalyptic story with plenty of action and intrigue. They are all one continuous story, so I'd suggest starting from beginning :D

I didn't finish the last one. I must admit that it was the concept of Landtrains that drew me to this. Didn't 2000AD do a strip based on this? (I remember seeing a strip with a type of Land Train on it anyway. I think that it was called Helltrekkers.)
