Hello everyone I'm new to this forum

I read this book some years ago and I can't remember, for the life of me, what it was called.

From what I remember the story begins with a young girl leading a normal sort of life in England. I think she's an orphan. She has a dream about a magical man/creature with goat-like horns on his head (they're kind of like elves). This, I believe, leads her to the famous stonehenge monument in England and somehow the stonehenge transports her to another world when she touches it. One of the mean themes of this book is the concept of other worlds besides our own. This where my memory really fails me. I remember there is a talking badger in the story that travels with her and the girl has to overthrow some evil wizard/sorcerer in this other world....then I think the girl becomes one of those horned people.

It's not a very well known book and I don't think it's part of a series. It's not the Narnia series or the Golden Compass though the themes are similar. I can't even remember any of the characters names. I tried searching for the name of the book online using the little snippets of the plot I remember but to no avail :(. This is kind of driving me crazy that I can't remember it so if anyone knows what I'm talking about that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I know you say it's not one of a series but the Susan Cooper books have goat horned people in them if I recall and also a stonehenge type monument and a female lead on of of the books. I think it might be "over sea under stone". Anyway goodluck.

Unless I am much mistaken, the book you are trying to remember is The Riddle of the Wren, by Charles de Lint.

Thank so much guys

Teresa you were right, it is the The Riddle of the Wren. Have you read it? I remember I enjoyed it when I read it almost 10 years ago. I think I'll go find it again.
