Tome of the Undergates

(The first book in the Aeon's Gate series) (2010)

'The debut novel from an extraordinarily talented twenty-five-year-old author. Fantasy's next global star has arrived.'

'A Fantasy that kicks off a series that could dominate the second decade of the century.'

It looks quite good but has anyone read it yet and what are their thoughts on it?

It looks and sounds really familiar. Is there any chance Sam is a Chronnite, or at least posted something about this before?

So I searched and came up with zip, so I'm guessing i'm just thinking of something else. Does sound intersting though.

I thought the same, but I now think I was just remembering Wert's review, posted a couple of months back.

It sound so typical for this kind of fantasy. No thanks for me. If the writer ever is hailed as much Abercrombie maybe then i will look at this.

He's already been hailed as 'fantasy's next gobal star', whose series could 'dominate the second decade of the century' -- what more do you want?

Oh, you mean hailed by someone other than his publisher's marketing department?

That kind of hype really annoys me, and is more likely to put me off than anything. Certainly from what I've seen, it's not in the least justified.

Yeah that kind of hype looks desperate and more off putting than regular marketing.

But then they are prolly going for certain fanbase that will read any big, epic fantasy. Like my younger brother who will read Goodkind series despite he tells me its the most clichè fantasy ever.....

I read the review. Based on that I doubt this book would do anything but annoy me. Fortunately I still have quite a few christmas present books to read before I need to get anything new!
