Hi,
I'm looking for two science fiction books that I read during the early 90's. I think that both was part of two separate series.

1.
A stocky young man is landed/stranded on a planet with a few other youngsters (at least two girls and one boy). He is underestimated because they believe him to be soft and fat, but the truth is revelead that he just looks fat because he's short and muscular and that he know's a lot about survival since he's from a farming/hunting society. I think that they try to get away from the planet. I found this book in the youth section in the library and I think it's the first one in a serie.

2.
There have evolved humans on earth (?) with psionic talents. They find a girl that is able to translate any language which is later found out to be due to that she's a mindreader i.e. she doesn't really listen to the language/speech but instead picks out the meaning from the brain of the person. This book is also part of a serie, I think.

I would be very grateful for any help to find these books since I've been thinking about them for years.

Number 1 sounds like the ColSec series. I believe it was 'Exiles of ColSec' by Douglas Hill, I really enjoyed these books at secondary school.

I'm afraid not a clue for number 2.

Oh thank you so very much!
When I looked it up it sounded exactly like the series I was after. Now I just have to hunt the books down so I can read them :)

No. 2 sounds like a plot point in Pegasus in Flight, if so that character's name is Tirla. second of three Pegasus named books by Anne McCaffrey.

Thank you! It does sound right. The irony is that I've read The Catteni series and The Tower and the hive series as an adult and really liked them, but haven't come across the Pegasus series.
