Recorded delivery for UK submissions?

Hi all,

Have started to send initial submissions to agents, and after a bad experience with postage on my first go, I was wondering if anyone here has tried using recorded delivery or similar when submitting? I'm thinking it's not a good idea because it would potentialy p*ss an agent off if they had to sign for every submission they were sent. Do you agree? Has anyone tried it?

In case you are interested (!) the problem I had the first time was assuming that I could use a single 'large letter' stamp for postage (it wasn't clear on the Royal Mail website that a single stamp only covered 100g of weight). After six weeks of wondering, I got my submission back from Royal Mail saying they hadn't delivered it because of insufficient postage. Needless to say I have since had my submissions carefully weighed at my local Post Office before sending them...

Cheers,
B

Yes.

I also used to make sure that the SAE had the same postage on, if not a bit more. As I have known agents/magazines pop a paper clip on the submission they are returning, thus making it weigh more. Nothing is more annoying than having to go to the main post depot and stump up £1.50 just to get a rejection ;)
