I'm looking for a series I read in the late 1980's/early 1990's. it was a papaerback series, female author. It featured two male heroes, I think one of them was a prince. And there was a main plot point involving creatures that were like manta rays or large batlike creatures- they attacked the main leads at night and wrapped them up. There was more than one book in the series.

Barbara Hambly. The three original titles are: 1) The Time of the Dark 2)The Walls of air and 3) The Armies of Daylight. (Originallly a trilogy for many years, she later did two more books. Great fantasy.

Don't think it was Time of the Dark - the main character is female and the prince is a baby. The bat like creatures sounds about right, but the rest doesn't tie up. Sorry

Gabriel: In the Time of the Dark, there are two main characters transported to the land of Darwaith--one femle and one male. And the prince is a baby in the first book. I can't recall the names; but there are several main characters; Hambly alternates chapters between the male and female leads in the first book.

Thanks Mary - I have the first three in the series on my shelf right now. The lead characters are a woman called Gil - a research historian - and Rudy, a biker and painter. The wizard is called Ingold and as the duration of the first three books (at least) is less than a year, Tir (the prince) remains a baby throughout.

I would be interested more in hearing from bkerr862 to see if this pointless bickering is actually helping in tracking down the story that he/she is after.
