Hello all - first time poster here
I am a London-based freelance photographer and am in the very, very early stages of planning a side project involving Star Trek/Sci-Fi fans. I am hoping to put together a coffee table book about people's obsessions. At the moment I am toying with the idea of filling the book with various different kinds of obsession ie. Star Trek fans, computer gamers, sports fanatics etc etc. However, I may have enough to go on, just by filling it with images of science fiction fans. Concentrating on the people and the fun that they have.
To achieve this, I'm going to need some help from you guys, to try and gather up some fans that are willing to pose for my camera in costume (possibly at their place of work and at their homes). You don't have to be in full costume, but have some item of it visible.
I'm hoping to attend some collector fairs and if possible, a convention or two, with camera, to capture the essence of what compels people, and feeds their addiction to their love of all things Trek/Star W*rs.
Fear not, I am a Trek fanatic myself so you won't have to worry that I'm just out to make fun!! This is why I have chosen this subject to study, as a way into doing something artistic and creative with something that I am interested. I recently provided a picture story to Trekmovie which involved 99 Trekkies setting a world record at the Millennium Bridge - I'm sure some of you were there!!!
If anybody is interested in posing for pictures for this project, which will I might add, be done with a lot of love and affection, I would appreciate it if you got in touch.
My best, Dan
