Postapocalyptic Savant Girl?

Hey, everyone. I'm trying to track down a book I read a while ago, though I can't remember the title or the author's name. The main character was an 11-year-old girl with some kind of genetic marker that allowed her to survive whatever disaster killed the standard humans -- I think it was 'Type AA' or something. Anyway, the old man who taught her left her a list of other Type AA children, and encouraged her to go find them. The first one she met was a teenage boy who'd nearly killed himself joyriding in a car, but she supercharged herself to rescue him. They also met a woman with a superlight plane and her younger sister. At the end, the travelers found an enclave of other survivors, and the girl had to go into space with two men, one a saboteur, to stop a satellite from (I think) falling onto the enclave.

The book was written in an odd form of shorthand, and presented as the journals of the main character, who was leaving them around in the hopes that some other survivor would find them. The author only wrote two books, to my knowledge, though this one was released in the 80s.

Thanks in advance for any help, folks. This has been bugging me for a while.

RedSavant, the author wrote a sequel that was serialised last year in Analog. Haven't got the details to hand right now, but I'll see if I can dig them out. You may be able to find the details on the Analog web site.

The sequel caused quite a stir with Analog readers because of the 'shorthand' style. It was discussed at length in subsequent issues.

Thanks for the quick reply, mosaix! Going off what you said, I was able to look through the forums, and I found the title: Emergence, by David R. Palmer.

Now to see if I can find the physical book in my attic... thanks again, mosaix.
