I wonder how many fans of ASOIAF have passed away looking forward to ADWD?
How many people's last thoughts were 'I'll never find out what happens Bran'?

R.I.P

He is very, very busy...

Far fewer than the number of people who have thought, "I'm going trolling for ASOIAF fans on the internet!"

It's taking a long time to complete the series? Really? Hadn't noticed.

Ok as if anyone would ever be thinking of the fate of some fictional character called Bran while they die...

Far more likely they'd be thinking of Danys :p

Thinking of Danaerys? Seriously?
If there is actually one so obsesses out there to be thinking of a character asoiaf, surely it would not be her. She's what, 14? little more then a kid, which is fine if you yourself are 14 going to 16. But for anyone above 17 years i already consider a 14 year old girl too young. It's not only a physical thing either, the mentality difference is huge.

Out of a whole list of beautiful female characters only a half-lolicon would go for her.
Then again, i can understand from the sort of chapters she has had, even so all the while i could not get it out of my head that while this was common in the middle ages, Khal Drogo must have had a thing for little girls.

ARGH!!! No no, that's not what I meant at all!!! I just meant imagining Danys' fate, much like a dying person was hypothetically imagining Bran's fate in the first scenario. I definitely don't think about Danys sexually it didn't mean to imply as such! My :p emoticon was meant to signify my poor jest!

Egads!

I figure there is more concern for Martin himself passing without finishing the epic story, he is no spring chicken and possibly not the healthiest eater around.

David Gemmell passed on in 05 I believe and left his third book of Troy unfinished, also Robert Jordan who I have not read.

Somewhat ridiculous, i agree. Mainly the way it was articulated. However, this reminds me of Stephen King when he was reading his fan mail in regards to the completion of the Dark Tower Series. He said he was getting letters from people on their death bed asking for the outcome when he had his hiatus from the series.

If the series was to never be completed and i had a choice to know the fate of one character from GRRM himself, it would be Howland Reed for obvious, and not so obvious reasons.

With that being said i would rather him not to finish the series than rush through it and have the subsequent drop off from the first three books as Stephen King apparently did. (which by the way was a "bitter sweet" ending)

I wonder how many passed on before witnessing the end of the epic masterpiece that is Sesame Street...

Really, just really.

Sesame Street ended?!?:eek::(

Is there a DVD collection of the last season?!?

Did Cooke Monster give up cookies for a more exemplary diet for America's children?!?

Did political correctness bring about the demise of the greatest kids' educational program ever?!?

Do not tune in next week. Not the same bat-time, nor the same bat-channel.

"Me, me, me, cookie face. Me, cookie face." is the most brilliant satire I've seen in years!

Speaking franklly, when I was diagnosed with cancer, eighteen months ago, I was very concerned that I'd have no sort of closure to a whole bunch of things, including getting to the end of ASOIAF as well as Scott Lynch's Locke Lamora books and even seeing David Tennant end his reign as Doctor Who! Of course I also worried about less important things such as missing my family and so on!!!

Since then, I've found out my condition is controllable, and while I don't have a clue whether I'm going to last for six months or ten years (though it's likely to be closer to the former than the latter), I don't think I'll see the end of GRRM's series. I hope I get to read ADWD, but any thing after that would be an unexpected bonus. I won't give up on the series though; I enjoy the writing far too much - even if I wasn't as impressed with AFFC as the other books.

xLORDSNOWx, The ending of the Dark Tower series wasn't bittersweet...it was damned disappointing! I don't know if I could beg for info on how something ended, using my condition. It just seems a little whingy!

And I'm not as concerned about Bran and Dany as I am Jaime and Jon. they are my favourite POV chapters along with Tyrion!

Dear Oxman,

The fates of fictional characters seem unimportant all of a sudden. May you get the closure you need and desire with all the important things in life. My prayers are with you this Sunday.

Well said Boaz.

My wife's family has been slammed brutally the last several months with cancer.

Best wishes and hopes Oxman.

This Thanksgiving, my wife and I had dinner with a very dear friend who was supposed to have been dead 10 years ago. At that time, she was diagnosed with uterine cancer that had already metastisized and was also in her uterus. She had chemo, radiation follwed by another round of chemo (this was the consensus of the specialists she saw in NYC. She made it 10 years, at which time she had a recurrance, which was found in her back and also in both lungs. She's undergone radiation and chemo again and is taking hormones. The most recent PET scan showed her to be in remission. She had enough energy to cook dinner for us and her spuse, and her spirits/energy was great. It gave meaning to the holiday that many of us take for granted.

I hope you do as well as my firned has. I hope that you live a long and healthy life. I pray that you get to read the end of the series, and get to enjoy your family for many years to come. I probably speak for everyone here when I say that

Wow, thank you for your warm responses! I only responded to this thread (even though the initial poster might well be trolling) as I felt I had a genuine answer to the original question. I have to add, I would rather wait and perhaps never get a decent ADWD than be handed rushed copies of the rest of the series right now and be disappointed.

Plus, the interval between books encourages rereads as well as the opportunity to seek out and find new, other exciting authors!

Amen. The other thing that the intervals afford us is the chance to discuss, rediscuss, formulate ideas, and share concepts. We'd never do this if we read it once and moved on to other pursuits.
