Japanese book

Howdy,

I'm looking for a book that I saw in a Barnes and Noble between 6 months and a year ago. It was paperback, but I didn't buy it because it was expensive (over $10) and now that I have a gift card I would like to buy it, but I don't recall the name or the author and it wasn't in the same place anymore

The book was written by a Japanese author and translated into English. The plot was that a portal opened up in the arctic and there was an alien invasion of Earth. Earth fought back and repelled the invaders and I think was on a counter-offensive through the portal. The Earth forces had specialized fighter planes (they may have been sentient) which they used to go through the portal and attack the alien world.

I remember the cover had a really cool looking fighter plane on it (I think).

Did you read it, is it any good?

I just reviewed it for Vector magazine. I was not impressed, but I'm notoriously hard to please

Nah, I haven't read it. I just spent 10 minutes searching Amazon.
