Yes, just when you thought it was safe to put away your convention callendars, we have... NEWCON 5!!

Sadly, the chances of me making this one are looking shaky (though, with luck, I may just squeeze in the Saturday).

However, I highly recommend Newcon to any poor unfortunate who hasn't been yet. Indeed, its a contender for my favorite con (and I like to think I've clocked up a few now)--a friendly atmosphere in a great venue (tons of natural light that makes a welcome change to your typical hotel dimness) with a cornucopia of fascinating panels.

Thanks for the endorsement, Jim. Have to confess we were overwhelmed with the positive feedback to NewCon 4.

Really hope you can make the Saturday this time. :)

I shall be there all weekend - hurrah! Northampton's only just up the road from me, so it's daft not to - and besides, it was loads of fun last time.

We should have an official rendezvous - I know Ian vaguely, but none of my Cambridge friends are going this year :(

Looking forward to seeing you all there! :)

Still finalising the program, as more people join or commit to coming. The latest to confirm being artist Dominic Harman (responsible for my two 'Noise' covers, Alan Campbell's Chasm City books, Eric Brown's Helix, Stephen Deas' fantasy books, Kelley Armstrong's Orbit covers and many, many others) and author Tony Ballantyne.

Can't wait.

Ooh, another addition to NewCon 5. I'm delighted to announce that the wonderful, gorgeous and incredibly talented Anne Sudworth -- one of the finest fantasy artists anywhere -- will be with us for the weekend and will be exhibiting at the convention.

For anyone not familiar with Anne's work: Untitled Document

That's wonderful! I hope this time to be able to get to talk to Anne. At Eastercon we kept waving and saying speak later but never did.

When I sell my first book I have promised myself one of Anne's beautiful prints (Can't afford an original)

I agree. Anne's a wonderful talent (and such a nice lady!). We have a couple of her prints up on the walls.

Oh, and another addition to the Newcon 5 lineup... top SF author Keith Brooke will also be joining us for the weekend. :)

Something worth mentioning is that late on the Saturday afternoon of Newcon 5, immediately before the live music and barbecue, there will be a book launch.

I was delighted to receive the introduction to the book, an anthology, earlier today. A jolly good intro it is too... written by a certain Northampton resident... one Alan Moore. :)

Two further additions to the NewCon 5 weekend: authors Deborah J. Miller (aka Miller Lau) and Chronicles' very own Stephen Palmer! :)

Well, its 50-50 that I'll make it--probably have to pay on the door. But will give it me best shot.

In the meantime, here's a... beautiful SF ballad about Northampton. When I heard it I thought of Newcon instantly.

Its by someone called Linda Jardim--what scares me is there appears to be no hint of irony to it!
