Book 1 is an anthology from 10 years back.. or more. I remember two of the stories. One told about a boy who was different from everyone else, he gave an older boy a nearly finished model of a car or t-rex and was laughed and taunted by the other children at the party. Later the other boys lured him into a barn and hung him. His friend either finds the body or goes to the barn to think and meets a goblin. Said creature says the dead boy was special and gives his friend a marble with his soul in it to protect. Later it focus's on the friend and hes been in a car accident and he has brain damage.
Book 2? The second story might be part of the anthology above. Its about a girl whos family life sucks and she wishes things where different or she was dead. Magically shes turned into a white fox and she runs home. Her mother sees her and starts crying and tells about how she saw the white fox just before her daughter was born.
Book 3 Was about twins (elf or human?) who were part of a resistance movement. They kidnap a red haired human woman and later in the story they end up on a snow covered mountain and one of the men is hurt. Thats all i remember.
Book 4 Was recent within the last couple years i think. It starts with a female thief who lives in a country that was taken over by a stronger kingdom who are very superstitious and wary of magic but used it to protect homes and valuables. She had magic and used it to steal from officials who condemned a friend of hers and crippled him by breaking his hands beyond repair. She steals a magical instrument, a flute i think, and goes to hide some of her goods in a cliff. Inside the cliff were rooms above the waterline and she gets out just in time before the water crashes violently against the cliff. As she watches it a man on horseback comes up behind her and thinking shes a boy strikes up a conversation with her. She leaves and its revealed hes a high ranking member of the invading hierarchy.
Book 5 Is very vague because it was a few pages in the back of a book i was borrowing about 5-10 years ago. It has a woman running from wolves or men with wolves? And she has her own wolf and its midnight. I don't remember anything else sadly.
