A little girl alone on alien space station

Some people are exploring an gigantic alien space station, I think they use some sort of teleportation system to move around. They stumble over a young human girl living alone in the corridors of the alien structure.

Maybe I was remembering it somewhat backwards. I fund that the Heechee Saga by Frederik Pohl have many of the elements that I vaguely remember. Its possibly that Wan from Beyond the Blue Event Horizon is the person i remember.
