The "where" in the books is that passage thread.

This is a thread created for the sole purpose of finding certain passages you wish to reread from the books. This way other forum memebers can just tell you where that particular passage is, without the need for you to peruse the entire book, or the entire series for that matter. (and more honestly --> i can't find a certain passage, but don't have the time to look for it, so pls tell me where it is ^^).

Someone in another thread mentioned examples of Lord Tarly's justice. The 7 fingers thing and the acid wash I don't remember at all and I can barely remember what he did to Sam. Where is this all described?

the first part is in a Brienne chapter in AFFC i think. I belive the one where's she enters Maidenpool, and meets up with ser Hyle at the gate of the town.
The second about Samwell is said i think somewhere in AGOT when Samwell explains his cowardice to Jon. i might be wrong about the second one though.

That is the best i can manage, so you'll probably have to wait a bit longer till someone posts more detailed/accurate whereabouts.

I might be mistaken, but I think the acid wash bit crops up when Catelyn visits Renly's camp in TCoK? I can't remember if Brienne tells her or not, but I'm sure it's around that scene. (Well, kinda sure!)
