3.01: The Tears of Uther Pendragon (Part 1)

It has never been that awful, and if you check out the previous comments you'll see that many people says that it is still the best fantasy show in the tellie. But the thing is, it could be so much better if the creators would listen audience criticism. So, we are going to see if we're soon back to a monster/magician-of-the-week line, while Arthur and Merlin try to find they way out from Uther's curse.

I still can't stand Merlins actor :( He just seems to remain in that same puppydog like mode and is rather like Orlando Bloom - great as an elf support role, but not anywhere near enough gravity in character or manners to really hold the centre stage.

I also felt that his summoning of the dragon so soon after effectively banishing the dragon (ok time line wise things have moved on but to the viewer its only just happened) rather weak - it felt like they had written him into a hole and couldn't think of anything to get him out (the quick shift to nighttime and the hours that the scorpions appeared to do nothing also supporting this theory).

I do agree this is a great base to this tale, good actors overall, well done fighting scenes and overall decent CGI -- it just needs something more in the writing of each episode to really bring it out. I get the feeling that the more I watch the more I am teased into thinking that "next week things will be different".
