Silly Author Person
Dragon*Con 2010 was a great big festival of fun. I had a book coming out (Wandering Lark, if you must know), and I had two panels and an autographing and a reading as well.
My weekend started Friday with a panel on the Writers Track about Worldbuilding. We discussed the various aspects of world creation from altering reality to suit your tale to making up whole worlds on your own. A lot of fun ensued, though I suspect Moderator Lee Martindale wished they had not put me and Josepha Sherman side by side as we continually pulled tunes from Broadway Musicals into our "performance."
My next panel was on Saturday. "Writing and Fighting" was about creating fight scenes in fiction. We had experts from several ends of the spectrum, including myself (a former state fencing champion), a former national fencing champion of my acquaintence, a samurai, two military fellows, one half of Crossed Swords and a new writer (yes, very new, very young and very nice and hopefully he will mature nicely as well).
The panel was pretty lively, and full of information. I felt very happy when I left.
Sunday, I had a reading and a signing. My reading was lightly attended, and I had a drawing for a bead dragon pin I had made. The winner was quite delighted with her new bit of bling. My signing--well, let's just say I autographed a ton of books at my publisher's table, so no one came. I did get into a lovely discussion with a couple of fans, and Laura Ann Gilman and I came up with a game of toss the pen when it got quiet for both of us.
Highlights for me include being remembered by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro (it has been a Really Long Time since I met her), sitting around at the Black Gate table jawing with John O'Neill the editor, Jason Waltz of Rogue Blades Entertainment and John Howard the author and assistant editor at times, hanging around looking at some Really Cool Costumes and just sharing space with my friends Charli and Kat (who were kind enough to invite me to share their room). Oh, and learning that my name was being mentioned on a lot of panels (good, I hope...)
And of course seeing Wandering Lark finally in print. It was beautiful.
So that is it. Dragon*Con 2010 is over.
I must go back to being one of the mortals and get some writing done now.
