What do you think of the new series? Is it a good trip, or otherwise? I've hit "Daily email Notification", so I will be able to see if the topic has awakened any interest and comment further on it myself.

It's got a lot of interesting possibilities, though I have fears about the second season. For me, it looks like they're heading towards the politics of a shared shop, which is not something (personally) I'd want to see. I'd have preferred the old-school sci-fi of the crew exploring strange new planets.... oh....

Lost interest, I just didn't care what happened to those people, most of whom I couldn't even remember their names.

Is there really any fun to be had with this series or shouldn't I bother at all?
I've watched about five seasons of Atlantis and loved it...and 3 to 4 seasons of SG1 and loved those as well. But when I saw the trailer for this new series, it looked to me like "Oh my Gods, there's highschool drama in StarGate now...they had just about anything else so far".

I've liked it so far. It's not the same thing as SG1 or SGA (Both of which I have seen all of) and It's not quite as good as them either but I dunno, it has it's moments...

I like Eli and Rush... and the moral greyness a lot of the characters have.

This sounds like me. I tried... and tried... but could never quite give a crap about any of the characters. Even the cameos from Daniel and Jack weren't worth sitting through the rest of the show. OMG it's awful.

One of my objections to the show is it seems like one episode of SG-1 stretched into a season, and then two seasons. (I don't know if "season" is the right term for a series any more, with those half year or more breaks in mid-"season".) The characters aren't, as some here said, as interesting or easy to identify with, and the constant conflict between Rush and Young is hard to like. You just don't have heros when one of them abandons another on a planet, or when there are frame-ups over murders. It's like a ship of sinners instead.

But the show holds my interest enough to keep me watching it.

I was dissapointed at the beginning but stick with it. It was a very frustrated long journey. I find it more soap opera than scifi that's why I called it Days of Our Universe. It have some episodes that grab your attention and sunk into slow episodes again. They hook me at the end of Season 1 when they bring action back to the season. And I'm hoping this Tuesday when Season 2 begins we'll see the same pace of the finale. It looks promising so I'm crossing fingers that Season 2 picks up the pace. Hopefully, since I enjoy it again at the end.

I think it's easily the Best Stargate show. I love their approach to both the science fiction and story telling. I would get frustrated with SGA and SG-1 having these big unatural info dumps and stories nicely wrapped up and hit the reset button. SGU is more like chapters and I can get into it more. Also the characters are a little more natural and realistic. It does include some sexuality and personal relationships but it's really not the main thrust of the show. Some folks are just upset that it's included at all. A different way to see it is that SG-1 showed people at their jobs where as SGU it is both their Job and their home (though unwillingly) so some of those lines are blurred. I personally like a chapter like approach to TV vs. the episodic shows with a reset button.

Things I especially love about SGU. They have aliens that are much more alien and they don't show up knowing English for a change. Also, although they go to less planets in a seasons, the planets are more diverse and I get more of a sense that they are actually visiting other worlds vs. the endless pine forest of other SG shows. I DO think SG-1 and SGA worked well with their restraints I just think SGU has a few less restraints and is able to tell a more compelling space exploration story.

There are no teenagers in the cast. But even though the first season did include some relationship aspects the primary focus of the first season was survival. There were some episodes where people were given a strange opportunity to visit earth and it gave a chance to get to know the characters in depth but perhaps this came too early in the show for some people. Those very same episodes have great story lines on the ship however.

Any relationship stories in the show either served to develop the characters or show how SOME of them were coping with a bad situation. Once again, no teen drama. In fact most of the characters keep their personal lives personal on the ship.

Well, I think is too premature to compare the thing about the aliens because the predecessors have aliens since the first episode and SGU only have so far two encounters with aliens. That is letting the Alliance out since they are other race too. But I have to admit that the alien episodes have been some of my favorites. But definitely so far they haven't had many aliens in the series and that is one of the things I really don't like much about SGU. Also I think is too premature to talk about exploration, SGU haven't make much space exploration hopefully they will get to that since they're in a ship that stop every time at some different place. But the first Season was almost entirely exploring the ship and the relations of the characters. That could have been done with a bit of exploring out too. And the second season is too early to tell. By the second season, the predecessors Stargates series have visit a lot of places. So I think the others have more space exploration under their belts so far.

SGU is not bad but is too slow even by other scifi series standards not only Stargate. But definitely have potential, so I'm hoping that the writers find a middle ground that continue to please the new fans and atract or keep the old fans because the potential is there. And there is not many good scifi in tv this days. And I'm sure the fans don't want the franchise to dissapear it would be a shame to see that.

I didn't make it to the second series, making it the only series out of 27 SG series I haven't seen. Couldn't they have made a Spaceship series, set in our galaxy, with some fun trips to the Pegasus.

they didnt make 27 they made 17...easy type....i really liked SGU, the second season got alot better and it would have got alot better in the third season!
