I dont know the name and I only remember some of the plot I read this book in in jr high and its bugging me that I dont remember the name

A young man finds out about a room,shed or something that makes the world age but not him Ya know he stays in this room for I think it was a year I know this isnt much help but I hope someone out there knows which book I am talking about Please help!!!
