I've been digging around trying to figure this out and found this site and figured I would give it a try.
I'm looking for a 3 book series or the name of any of the books in the series. The main plot follows a soldier from a bunch of colonies that is put through boot camp. During boot camp they are "enhanced" by a mysterious alien machine but the enhancement is faulty and only works part time. as the story progresses they follow a whole war between the colonies and a group including earth.
One thing that does stick out in my memory is at one point they are taken to a ship that is underwater. The ship then does a jump from under water and joins a fleet of space ships.
The whole series ends with him giving a speech to a bunch of new recruits having had his enhancements fixed.
I know I haven't giving a whole log of specifics but if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it as I haven't been able to find either my original book or anything online yet.
