I read this book about 4 years ago, I believe at the time the book was still fairly new.
I can't remember the name or enough details to find it on google. I was hoping someone here may have also read this book and would be able to remember either the book name or some more details.
- I think the book was meant to be part of a series, or at least was meant to have a sequel. I can't remember if I read 1 or two books. I did remember the story definitely didn't finish.
- The cover had a picture of the back of a girl in a blue dress, with tattoos going all the way up on her arms.
- The main character is a girl, who has tattoos of runes that mysteriously appear on her limbs. She starts her life in poverty, i think she was living on the streets. Sometime before she hit her teenage years, young girls start to turn up dead in the area she's living in. The bodies of all the dead girls were covered in tattoos. As this is happening, similar tattoos begin to appear on the main character's limbs. It is revealed later in the story that some powerful sorcerer/magician/etc. was murdering the girls and sacrificing them to the main character (who was unaware of this). However somehow his plan was stopped before the tattoos on here were 'finished'. I don't remember the details of this, but the tattoos on her are a big plot element.
- When the story starts, she is no longer on the streets. Instead she's in her late teens, and living as a student/apprentice in some city.
- The world has several races all mixed into the same 'soceity'. There's people with wings, and also a group of people who are immortal. There was another plot element involving how the immortal ones never tell people their real names, something to do with them being created by being 'named', and the main character somehow gets involved with some of them.
I don't suppose this rings any bells? Does anyone know what book I'm talking about?
