Four weeks ago this Thursday, I threw out three threads of criticism of Lovecraft's materialism/cosmicism. One week ago this Thursday, I indicated that I'd like it, if those who are interested in participating could do so; I've been working on an article on the topic, a draft of which is in the hands of the editor, and I'd like to wrap up my work on it. JDW in particular has more than risen to the challenge with some points that will either help me strengthen my paper or prompt me to retract parts of it (or the whole thing!). I need to give my editor plenty of time to read a final version (and to indicate what, if any, revisions he wants me to consider).

So I propose to bow out of the three-threads discussion (if it is still going on) as of a week from tomorrow, i.e. as of Sept. 30). For my purposes -- though anyone who wants to keep the ball rolling may do so, subject to the will of the moderator -- October the First Is Too Late.

Folks who followed sf back in the Sixties will probably get that.

Not that I mean to leave the list; just to leave these threads.

Nice to see the reference.:D Incidentally (though I suppose you are aware of this), early on Lovecraft was much more in the same camp as Hoyle when it came to models of the universe....

Before the facts were in, the eternal, steady-state model certainly had its attractions. It was a good piece of science--that's why it could be swiftly discarded when it turned out to be wrong!

Good luck with the article there, Extollager!
