Trying to find a certain book... Need some help!

Ok, so I am looking for this science fiction book that was written about 15 or so years ago. Don't know any names or places. The main character is a male humanoid - ox-like person covered in blue fur. There is another character who, if I can remember correctly, is a robot who eats trash for food? The female character of the group has psychic powers. The setting is a post-apocalyptic world.

Any suggestions on what the author or title could be would be most appreciated. I've been looking for this books for a few months as a gift to someone.

Ok, so updating on some info - instead of a psychic powers for the female character, she is actually a pyromaniac. There is also a side character who is a type of "blog" race. Rings any bells?

Could this be Fire Dancer (and two sequels) by Ann Maxwell? Only, the furry isn't blue, he's golden. The female protagonist needs him to control her energy manipulation abilities. Their sun went nova, so they're searching for any other of their species. They pick up a translating "snake", genetically engineered to understand any form of communication, that absorbs radiation to live. He constantly complains about the cold. The trash-eating robot could be the zoolipt, which they pick up in a sequel - it's really a blob of semi-aware machinery from Ancient Days that was a recycling computer that went erratic and got bored. It migrated a bit of its substance into their bodies, and now heals them when they're injured, but knocks them out if they strain their bodies too much.
It was an interesting series; I wish she'd written more.

Ok, after I wrote about twenty minutes, I clicked the wrong button, so lets do this again....

The main character is a blue-ox humanoid and his supporting (or other main) character is an amorphous blob. The amorphous creature's society is composed of intelligent females and de-evolved males (the product of a catastrophe that happened an undetermined amount of time in the paste). The creatures are able to absorb supporting structures in order to assume humanoid shapes.

Other characters:
A drug addict who starts to eat this glowing fungus in an underground cave and transforms into an organic garbage disposal - consuming trash, debris, etc.

A woman who is in a mental institute due to her being addicted to fire - being physically aroused by it and eventually able to control it.

The characters, as well as some others, are brought together and assume certain societal roles as organic counterparts to machines (such as the garbage disposal). These organic roles were originally created by the amorphous society pre-catastrophe and are brought back together by another force (cant remember how or what) in order to bring the amorphous culture back to an advance stage of evolution.
