BTW, I think I read somewhere that one publisher not only turned down Crash, but also offered Ballard the phone number of their psychiatrist!

There really should be a website for great rejections, real or imagined. "Dear Mr Burgess, I am obliged to reject your novel, since one word in three seems to have been accidentally translated into Russian. Someone did something unpleasant to whom, but what? And what are yarbles, exactly?"
