Now I know Brandon Sanderson has been bandied around here as a good thing and I was a bit hesitant to read any of his works as he was put forward as Robert Jordan's successor and I lost interest at book 6, in fact I read to book 7 but my interest died at book 6 of the Wheel of Time series if I am really honest.

However I'm not sure what made me pick up the Mistborn series - you guys had a little to do with it - but I am amazed I am loving it. The story is unusual, the characters fantastic and the events fantastical. I love the whole metallurgical aspect of the series and how infuriating the main characters are, its simply a really refreshing read :)

what do you guys think

It was a great series i finished it a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it though the last novel was a little "off" i felt. The originality of the magical structure is very refreshing, Vin is a pretty cool character i thought and i loved the ruthlessness of Kelsier.

Nearly finished book 2 now and still really enjoying it, love Vin but could bang her head off the wall atm lol

One of the best series ever. Sanderson is my top guy as it stands. If you like this you will be blown away by his new book, The Way of Kings which only scratches the surface of the story even though it is a monster of a book.

I even bought a personalized signed copy of Mistborn after reading the series!

I did enjoy the series, but got a weensy bit bored with the repetitive description of the 'travel-by-coins'- it was always the same. I kept muttering "get on with it..." too often, as they stood around discussing what was to be done. But overall, it was a good read.

Loved this series. I stuck with The Wheel of Time through those middle books and was really impressed with Brandon's effort in The Gathering Storm. Good story about him stepping up to the mark to finish of the series, that's gotta be tough. Just got the Towers of Midnight, cant wait to get into it.

Anyway, I tried Mistborn after Brandon's WoT effort and absolutaly loved it. I loved the originality of the story. Great characters. Will read again.

Went on the read Elantris and loved it just as much.

Great books. Great writer. After Towers of Midnight I'll be going The Way of Kings!

It looks like Allow of Law is a Mistborn book with no overlapping characters with the existing work. Publication is scheduled for late 2011. I would post sources but I can't give links yet.

I'm a quarter of the way through Book 3, and I have to say - this one isn't as much of a page turner as the previous 2. I'm looking forward to seeing how they get to the end, but it's dragging a bit at the moment.

I like the characters, and as you have all said the magic in this one is refreshingly different from a lot of the other fantasy books I've read.

Finished the series a couple of days ago... I'm still thinking WTF? about the ending. lol

Agree with you there, book 3 was a disappointment compared to the previous 2

Ah well, I'm going to stay hopeful. I haven't read bk 3 yet, but these things are often subjective. For example, I read some pretty bad reviews about bk 4 of A Song of Ice and Fire, then I liked the change of pace it offered, and very much enjoyed it.

I've seen some reviews saying that bk 3 of Mistborn is the best.

More generally, with parts 1 and 2 I found everything very accessible and enjoyable -- nice writing, likeable characters, and nothing dull or too complicated. My only criticism is that it took me a while to stop just enjoying on a superficial level, and actually start caring.

Coragem

I did enjoy the series and I thought it was very original. I loved the first book but the books seemed to get worse as the series went on. The last book was just average.
I liked his stand alones Elantris and Warbreaker better than Mistborn. I know Way of Kings is just one book but what a book. Excellent!

I thought the first book was very well written, but the second book felt like some sort of vehicle to start an Elend Venture spin off book. The Well of Ascension should be a good example to other writers of why you should not shove another character down your reader's throats for the sake of a silly romance.

I agree that the first book was the strongest, was expecting more form the rest of the story and the ending was a little bit of an anticlimax

It was a pretty good ending, it was just that the story kind of changed half way through the book and kind of threw me off there.
It's taken a while to wrap my head around. I think it's because you kind of get to a point where you are sure you know what's going to happen and then it twists so much that you don't know where the hell you are! Also, it's a much difference pace to the other 2 books.

I kinda liked it at the time but had anticipated the ending and wanted to be wrong, the whole lets put a god up there and let them live happy ever after narked me

Just finished the series today. Overall I thought the plot is pretty good, the magic system is new and cool—I didn't even mind the whole God ending and the way everything tied together so nicely, but a lot of times the writing ... feels like Sanderson treats his readers as children, constantly repeating himself or explaining stuff that's already covered.

I realise this is subjective, but personally, there seems to be an ... issue with newer/newish writers these days: Good with ideas, plots, but just good enough to string words together to deliver the ideas and plots.
