Librarian who mets an Elf lord

I read a book in the 90s (or 00s) about a female librarian who has to look after an elf who comes into our dimension. She had a kick-ass friend called Naomi who could do karate, that's all I remember. Ring any bells for anyone?
 
Sounds like a Mercedes Lackey (sp) novel-- several have had elves who end up in a human world. One of Mercedes' heroines is a karate expert-- but her names was Diana Tregarde (although there were other karate 'kids' in various novels).
 
It sounds like it might be The Sword of Maiden's Tears by Rosemary Edghill (aka eluki bes shahar).
 
Yes, the book is "The Sword of Maiden's Tears" by Rosemary Edghill, a DAW Books paperback from the early 1990s. There are two more books in the series: "The Cup of Morning Shadows" and "The Cloak of Night and Daggers". WARNING: The series isn't finished and probably never will be.
