I think that Piers Anthony got me into reading fantasy with his Dragon on a Pedestal back when I was 10, and AC Clarke got me into sci-fi with A Fall of Moondust around the same time.. but when I think back on my favourite fantasy authors throughout my life, McKinley tops the list.. as does Barbara Hambley, Atwood and Tad Williams. Anyone else start with The Blue Sword or The Hero and the Crown? Anyone else have their first crush on Tor?

I find myself wishing they would write more. McKinley recently wrote Sunshine which has an amazing story and intriguing backstory, but she has no intentions to write anything more about it.. I respect her, but it itches.

Yes I read Erikson and GRR Martin, and lots of others now, but some have meaningful histories for me... Anyone read Sydney J Van Scyoc? She wrote a number of interesting stories but has since given up writing. I have emailed her, and I even once received a reply from Anne McCaffery.. made my day (when I was 17)

Erikson thanked a tea shop in one of his acknowledgements.. I passed by it today and wondered if sometime I could run into him there. But he uses a pen name no?

I really wish she'd write more in the Sunshine universe as well! It was really intriguing.

The Blue Sword has long been one of my favourite novels.

I really enjoyed Blue Sword and Hero/Crown as well. Wish she'd make a return visit.

I almost picked up Sunshine the other day. I've almost picked it up several times, but then ... no.

Recently, I read Chalice and didn't think it was one of her best.

Behni, to be honest if you know what Steven looks like you can see if he's in there. The only thing I would say is don't be offended if you approach an author and they ask you to leave them alone, a lot write in coffee shops so its business hours to them rather than just grabbing a cup of java.

I read Robin's book a while ago and its the type of title that will appeal to fans of Sookie Stackhouse.
