Looking for title about alien abduction published 1995-2004

I'm looking for the title or author of a book I was reading sometime between 1995 and 2004. I was about 2/3s of the way through it when I lost my copy. Life ensued and I never found it again. I don't remember to much about it. There was a large group of humans that woke up in a chamber on a alien spaceship. There were no aliens, food, water or supplies. After a while the figured out the material the chamber was made out of could be molded into objects like chairs etc. They located a source of water and food. Eventually the people started breaking off into groups and tensions started growing.

Sorry but thats all I can remember. The book may have only been distributed in Canada but I can't be certain about that.
