Thor (2011) - trailer

Looks good, but I'm sick of the 3D stuff, I'm considering not seeing it in 3D because, like Clash of the titans and Toy story 3, it might detract from my viewing pleasure.

I see we have shield in there again, should be interesting. :) and it is Kenneth Brannagh directed, with Natalie (I can do little wrong, except Star wars) Portman

Yeah I noticed that as well, I find it quite amusing that there was a time the end of the trailer would read "In 3D in selected theatres" the norm remaining 2D, now it's reversed.

If it is only 3D in the local cinema then I won't be seeing it :(

This one might be fun. But I'm getting tired of 3D also. I remember well the 3D run of movies in the late 1950s. A brief time of hype and lots of effects designed to exploit the medium. Mercifully, it died a quiet death. I foresee the same here, all the fuss about 3D TV notwithstanding.

Ah this looks interesting! It also doesn't come across as one of those films that bungs all the good bits into the trailer.

I am eagerly waiting for the Thor movie. From the trailers, the movie seems to worthy.

I've been a Thor fan since the late 1960's.

Here is a short clip of Thor saving Hercules.

I can see why some folk might think Marvel - or, more likely, the casting director - is poking fun at them. Being somewhat unfamiliar with the god involved (due to not having read any stories based on Norse mythology for four decades or more), I looked up Heimdall on Wiki. In the first sentence, Heimdall is described as the "whitest of the gods"**.

But perhaps these folk ought to be glad that at least in one unfortunate, white, Christian actor isn't being forced to take part in something so obviously blasphemous.... ;):)

** - I am assuming, by the way, that certain people haven't added this description since the complaint about the casting was made. And I'm sure someone will be along - this being the site it is - to explain that whiteness (or brightness) is nothing to do with skin pigmentation at all, but rather some mythological aspect of (some of) the Norse deity.

Of course it has to be pointed out that the movie is not based on the Thor of legend but on the Superhero Marvel version, in which it does have to be said that Heimdall is indeed white... but then so is Nick Fury and unless I'm sorely mistaken Samuel L Jackson doesn't conform to that - in fact he has no hair either :)

(Of course the movie Fury was based on the Ultimate Comics Version of the character, who was based on Samuel L Jackson sooooo....)

Found this but no mention of skin colour
Heimdall
Reading there that Heimdall is the father of humankind, perhaps he ought to look African (although I doubt Norse mythology takes the migration of homo sapiens from Africa into consideration). And as for Marvel's take on that, who knows? I don't.

Anyway, good luck to Idris Elba. He was very good in The Wire.

I'm hoping for a great movie, because his stories in Marvel Comics were so exciting and full of imagination. As seen here in this classic 1960's comic, the mighty Thor battles one of his toughest foes, an indestructable and powerful war robot called...The Destroyer.

This one might go either ways, we can have either good entertainment movie (do not expect anything more than that) or another comic book failure. Though I do have trust in Director, I didn't like the choice of Archenemy "destroyer" ( though I quite liked casting choice for Loki) who looked pretty dull after shots of Asgard.

I do like Idris Elba as an actor (he was quite funny in RocknRolla), but I won't comment on him playing one of the Nordic gods, don't want to get any labels as new user :D
