(Partly Found) Help me track down a couple of stories?

First, a short story involving a pursuit across different time rates. All I remember is that at the end one of the protagonists is seeing by the "grey light of gravity". It was in an anthology of some sort IIRC.
Second, a novel. A group of people on a spacecraft survive the Big Crunch and end up in the next universe.
Any pointers appreciated please!

The second, though vague, could be Moorcock's The Blood Red Game (aka The Sundered Worlds), where the protagonists go in search of a way for humanity to survive the collapse of the universe, eventually bringing the entirety of the human race through various layers of the multiverse only to find themselves confronted by a species which, though not particularly hostile, require them to play what they call "the Game"... and which nearly devastates the survivors, before they find a special strength within.

The first sounds hauntingly familiar, but, again, the description is vague enough I'm uncertain of what it might be....
