Hi,

First time poster here looking to pick the brains of some of you guys for help! When I was younger my dad owned a graphic novel that I read but for the life of me neither myself or my dad can remember what it was called.

I remember plot points and I was hoping from that somebody might know what it was (I know it might be a bit of a long shot).

The story is set in the not too distant future. The protagonist is an African American girl, she lives in a tiny apartment with her family but ends up in an orphanage of some kind. She grows up and ends up in the army, where she rises through the ranks. Her commander is corrupt and when she finds out they end up shooting each other with their rifles. This is where I struggle to remember much more, but I do know that her commander eventually gets thrown in prison. She visits him, leaves behind her belt and then he hangs himself. I can also remember that the protagonists older brother is in the army, and at some point he gets punched by the corrupt commander.

That's all I can remember! I know this is a bit of a long shot, I really would like the novel for sentimental reasons and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like Frank Miller's "Martha Washington: Give Me Liberty" mini series~
