For those of us in the UK looking to watch Game of Thrones, you'll be able to watch it on Sky TV.

Sky are launching a new channel on Feb 1st 2011, called "Sky Atlantic", which will be covering a lot of the more grown-up dramas from US networks, especially HBO, which Sky has signed a £100 million exclusive contract with.

I'm not sure whether Sky Atlantic will be screening Game of Thrones at the same time as HBO, but it shouldn't be long delayed.

Sky Atlantic comes as part of the Sky Variety pack, so as long as you have that then the wait should be over soon. :)

Oh - and Sky HD subscribers will be able to watch Sky Atlantic HD automatically. :)

Unfortunately it doesn't look like the other cable channels will be getting Sky Atlantic soon enough for us to see Game of Thrones, if at all. We have an old satellite dish, but the collared doves have been nesting on it for so many years, it probably doesn't work any more...

I need to find a friend with Sky who can "tape" it for me (we need a new verb for the digital age)

The old standy "record" still works in a digital context

You MIGHT be able to find is streaming somewhere. I used to use these types of sites to watch professional basketball games before my cable company decided to correct a problem that was preventing me from giving them my my money.I'm not sure of the protocol for posting links to those sorts of sites, if a protocol exists, so if you would like to talk via PM i can give you more detail.

Unless someone such as brian says it's OK to discuss it here :)

I am guaranteed to buy the DVDs when they come out, so it's not like HBO won't get my money - I just don't have any other reason to pay for Sky Atlantic apart from GoT, and I hate the thought of being left out of the geeky discussions at work when the show is airing live :(

I saw my first Game of Thrones advert on a bus shelter.

(And I'll be waiting for the DVDs. :()

I'm sure other ways to 'acquire' this show will creep up once it is released ;)

I've got no option but that route living down here in Aus Land.

GRRM announced on his Not A Blog, yesterday, that the first episode/pilot will air on Sky Atlantic on April 18. That's only one day after the U.S. airing. I'd been under the impression that Brits would be waiting at least a month longer than Americans.

Just yesterday, I asked a friend if it was possible to work a swap with a Brit to get A Dance with Dragons early (it seems that the book will be release in the UK a month before the U.S.A.) if I sent him dvd's early... Looks like that won't work, nor do I really want to go to prison.

Don't worry, Boaz.

We'll be reporting on all the twists and turns in ADWD here on the Chrons where you can read them before you get the book. ;):)

I'm living in CO at the moment but i'm English so if the book does happen to arrive while i'm still here i'll be getting a copy sent over as soon as it hits the English shelves. Given that you're in CO too Boaz i can always get 2 sent over if you need :)

And in terms of HBO / Sky, i'm gutted, i have HBO specifically to watch Thrones but i'm heading home for a quick visit and will be in England when the show starts, so wont be able to watch it till i get back :(

Boaz, can't you order the book through Amazon UK? I know I've ordered books from the US one and post and packaging wasn't that expensive.
I've been told that Amazon UK will hold ADWD and not deliver it until the American release.

Don't worry, Boaz.

Gaaaahhhh!!!!!

I stayed off the Chrons for a month between the UK release and the US release of AFFC. That was very difficult for an addict like me.

You are my new best friend! We need to connect soon. Also, two friends and I are getting HBO just for the series and we're going to have a royal get together for each episode. You're invited.

The Bookdepository.com will probably be your best bet, though that is disturbing news about Amazon.co.uk not delivering to the USA. Where did you hear that, Boaz?

From the most reliable source around... my friend, Trunk. Uh.... since I bow to you in things ASOIAF, you're telling me that I can get ADWD straight from Amazon UK immediately upon the UK release? Sweet.

Now I'll actually go to Amazon and figure this out... if at all possible.

Regarding dispatch (shipping) amazon.co.uk says...
Books, Music, DVD and Video items

  • Most countries in the world. Please note that customers in the US and Canada may be restricted to one copy of certain book titles because multiple copies may infringe US copyright laws.

I expected more restrictions... hmmmm.

I did not find anything on amazon.co.uk regarding restrictions specifically to A Dance with Dragons.

It's obvious that I want to do an end run on the delay between UK and US releases... and I'd expect amazon to support the publishers release dates for their respective regions.

Maybe I will just try to do this legally and order ADWD online.
