Apparently they originally had a longer lifespan but the planet has reduced it drastically.
They are born already knowing about their condition through some sort of racial memory. The first word one child utters is, 'Why?' as it realizes its predicament.
They mature in days and die after only a few days of productive life. There is more than one tribe and they fight for resources as well I think. There is a team of scientists but they are ridiculed for spending the small time that they have on gaining knowledge that cannot benefit them in their own lifetime.
