Sometime between the years 1985-1995 I read a science fiction book and now as the forum label suggests I can't remember the author or title. It was about two brothers, one rather nasty and has great esp ability, the other nice with limited esp ability and afraid of the evil brother. The evil brother has intercourse with the good brothers girlfriend for no other reason then to be mean. ESP is an ability that only some have and the rest of Earth's society is afraid of the folks that do have the ability. I remember the city of Edinburgh had something to do with the story. Can anyone help with the title and author. I have given the details I can remember sorry my first post is kind of boring!

You're thinking of Intervention by Julian May (sometimes published as two books, but I read the single-volume edition), which fits in between May's Saga of the Exiles and Galactic Milieu Trilogy series.

Rogi Remillard is the narrator of the book and the "nice" brother you mention, his nasty twin brother is Don Remillard who uses his psychic powers to seduce Rogi's girlfriend and marry her - actually they both have relatively limited psychic ability, it is Don's sons Denis and Victor who are much stronger.

There are also some parallel storylines following some other psychic people around the world, one of them being Edinburgh University student Jamie MacGregor who is part of the group that eventually demonstrates psychic powers to the world.

I did really like the book (although it's been a long time since I read it), you may want to read the Saga of the Exiles first, since it does have a few connections to Intervention.
