A long time ago I read a book about a world where good evil and middle gods each had helpers, good had angels, evil had devils, and one of the middle gods had Djinn or Genies (can't remember which)
Something happened that was causing a war and the middle god sent a Genie to two groups of his people. One group was shepherds and the other was something else (hunters I think.) He told them that the Leaders children must marry and the 2 tribes must stay together till a certain cactus flower bloomed. Needless to say The two families did not get along and the two that were to be wed were very upset.
