I remember reading a book about 20 years ago, probably young adult, about a family of telepathic and telekinetic people who crash lands their space ship on an underdeveloped, medieval world. The father and older brother (I believe) go scouting the area, but tell the younger sister to stay in the ship for her own safety.
She becomes afraid and tries to reach out to them telepathically, but they do not respond. She leaves the ship and somehow ends up meeting a village of people and living there, but they see her as a witch because of her "supernatural" powers.
Her family eventually rescues her, but not before she has fallen in love with a man who shows some promise as a telepath and she begins teaching him what she knows. Her family was highly upset at her "contaminating" the culture and point out what she was not mature enough to see - that this man will no longer feel he belongs with his people because of his new-found abilities. If she left him there without a guide, he would spend the rest of his life travelling in his world, never satisfied, always searching for something his world could not provide. But if they chose to take him with them, he would not fit into their society because he was not developed enough to cope with an advanced world. I think she made a choice to leave with her family, but I don't remember what happened to the man.
Does anyone recognize this story?
