SG-U: 2.17 - Common Descent

While stopping to harvest lime for Destiny’s failing life support system, Scott, Eli, Wray and Greer discover a settlement of human inhabitants who became stranded while pioneering a new planet after the gate could no longer contact their home. They claim their civilization, Novus, was founded two thousand years earlier by Destiny’s crew.

While Col. Young considers their request to be taken back to their home planet, they are attacked by the Drones who have discovered a way to track Destiny. While some are able to escape the planet to Destiny, Scott, Eli and others become stranded after the Drones destroy the gate and the Destiny is forced to jump to safety.

This was an interesting episode which gave us an insight into what happened to the alternate Destiny crew in 'Twin Destinies'. It brought in elements which we've grown accustomed to in the Stargate series, with solar flare activity aiding time travel.

Unfortunately, they ended the episode with an element we've seen several times in this series alone - a cliffhanger where several main characters are stranded on a planet and Destiny can't get to them. I don't know if it had made it to a third season, how many more times they could have used the same device to create tension.
