I wasn't aware of this until i just watched the little On Demand short.

The map will evolve with the series. VERY COOL :) I recommend seeing it, aas it contains info not found anywhere else.

I also love the haunting classy music during the opening titles.

@Conor There's two or three 'metal' versions on Youtube. They're actually rather good if you like a bit of kickass rock (and I do!)

@Conor Yeah that was the one I was primarily thinking of. It's excellent! I love the first comment where someone says of the guy that made it: "Henceforth you shall be known as The Mountain That Rocks." :)

There's also this one, but it's not as good I think. YouTube - Game of Thrones Opening Theme Rock / Heavy Metal by Arnold Nesis

Or this one: YouTube - Game of Thrones theme (guitar version)

That one was great too, I'd say the top one is best then the guitar version as a fairly close second.

This all goes to show how good the song is written as others are doing these great covers.

The thing about the theme music is that it sticks in my head. After I watch an episode, it's still lingering in the back of my mind. It must be good. :)

Me too, it stays in there for a few days, now that I have heard the heavy metal versions...even longer!

am i the only one who isnt impressed with the maps in the opening credits?, probably I mean they are pretty cool and all but does'nt portray the scale and distance between locations it looks as if you could job from Winterfell to King's Landing in a day or something when in reality (well not reality but you know what I mean) Westeros is the size roughly of South America.

Well yeah, but I mean the thing about maps is they're never going to be the same size as the real thing...

I dont expect a scale map the size of South America to scroll across my screen Km by Km *facepalm*

when you watch the weather forecast on TV if it shows you a forecast for say the whole of europe that would give some sense of size and scale....that was the point im making

For something from the other end of the spectrum, here's an acoustic version of the theme by Zach Galifianakis:
