I have only read a few of his titles(The Traveling Vampire Show, The Cellar, and The Woods Are Dark). I enjoyed them quite a bit and wondered what other novels of his that I might enjoy.

Okay. I was trying to figure out where I heard that name before and then I realized that I saw and interview with him on the Dark Dreamers show. Seemed like a nice guy. Haven't read anything from him however.

He seems to have been immensely prolific, I keep seeing omnibus editions of his work cropping up in second-hand stores. From what I've read, his work is typical King-ly mainstream US horror with something of an overdose of kinky sex.

What do you consider mainstream and is it bad to be mainstream? I have my thoughts, just wondering what yours are.

I believe both my definition and judgment of mainstream horror can be found in my original statement. Once again, I urge you to actually read what people have written here. It might also help to actually offer some of your own thoughts before demanding that others shed more light on theirs.

Once again you are approaching me as if I am attempting to start an argument. I started this thread, I know my own thoughts, I want all of yours. Personally I really don't think it matters one bit whether someone is mainstream or not, they became mainstream because they were excellent writers, debatable I suppose, but true in the fact that more than just a few people enjoy their writing. This is not to say that writers who are not mainstream are terrible writers, they just haven't gotten the limelight that King or Straub have. Listen, I think you are a smart guy but your words are painting you out to be a narcissistic, pretentious asshole.

I read a long time ago a book by him about black rain that makes you insane and start attacking and killing people. Something to the effect of "One Rainy Night" or something like that. I liked it a lot, easy reading and it felt like something Wes Craven would do.

Actually, I am a pretentious asshole, if that's synonymous with 'does not suffer fools gladly'.

You repeatedly point out that you know what your own thoughts are; I applaud your achievement of basic self-awareness. However, for a total stranger to show up and demand to know everyone else's thoughts and then resort to cheap invective when they do not mirror his own is, well, childish at best.
