Last night i was re-reading some Jaime chapters, i wanted to read the ones with the WhiteBook in particular. Whilst i was thinking of who would Jaime want to sit on the Iron Throne (methinks Tommen), I was wondering what part he could actually play in doing that.

Well he started out by subduing the Riverlands (at least for now) for him.
Now he is met with new unrest : the mess Cersei made.
1) She made tommen sign a paper that allows the church to have their own army.
2) She just tried to destroy the Lannister-Tyrell alliance, and now asks Jaime to save her.

Now in earlier parts of the book, jaime probably could care less. After all that has happened though, he is changed, he is seeking redemption. How to do this. What does he think is the best course of action?

Could it be, to return to King's Landing and to defend the Queen? Maybe, but which Queen? Could he chose to champion Margaery instead? Thus help restoring (alongside Kevan) the Tyrell-Lanister alliance, rid themselves of an evergrowing mad Queen, whose presence is annoying them all. Kevan dislikes Cersei, Jaime love has turned to hate, so why not?

The problems being:
1) She is still a lannister, his father taught him that they ought to stick together, even if you loath the other Lannister.
--> Since then Tyrion killed is father, Cersei is actively hunting down dwarves for Joffrey, Jaime was reminded of the incident with Tyrion's wife, Lancel *bleeped* Cersei, ..... So maybe that is no longer so important. (Truly, without Tywin holding them together the Lannister seem to be falling apart.)

2) the prophecy with Magy the frog. If Jaime defends Margaery and wins, it might mean bad news for Cersei, she is supposed to rule till her 3 children are wrapped in shrouds, and a new more beautiful queen comes along. This could be remedied by the fact that Cersei champion might win her free as well. Especially if the septon chooses Lancel to represent the Seven ^^.

Might we see an awesome duel - Lancel vs Qyburn's Frankenstein? :D

I got the idea from reading the last Jaime chapters that he somewhat sees that Cersei is a hopeless case now. I at least would expect that he's trying to be a better commander and a more honorable knight now.

Maybe it's just that I've rather grown fond of Jaime since he lost his hand and I'd love to see him leave Cersei in her own bleep...

It's an interesting dilemma of course, family vs other values, morals etc.

Things are not looking good for Jaime. Everyone's starting to like him, and in Westeros, that is as good as a death warrant...

SPOILERS BELOW; STOP NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!

I think Jaime is through with Cersei, yet I feel he may yet try to make some amends by protecting Tommen. Also lets not forget poor Marcella, a kingsguard knight will be in Dorne soon to see that the ***** has hit the fan there. Will Jaime feel honor bound (we will have to get used to using that word concerning Jaime! tough I know!) to defend her as well.

Maybe someone can answer a question for me. Who is now the Lord or Lady of Casterly Rock??

Tywin is dead. Jaime can hold no lands. Cersei, besides being female, is on trail for what? crimes against the crown. Tyrion has been sentenced to death, and has fled. Tommen can only claim blood through Cersei, and since he is already King I don't think he can still claim lordship of the Rock with out creating more troube than he needs.

Best I can figure that will make Kevan Lord of Casterly Rock, putting Cersei in even deeper doo!

Would Kevan be willing to team up with Jaime to protect Tommen and their family name?

Just throwing up my thoughts, love to know what you all think!

LAST CHANCE!

YOU ASKED FOR IT.......

Kevan said that Cersei is the Lady of Casterly Rock when he refused to be Hand. And she will be that untill she will die. If Cersei dies the title may pass to Mircella, but since Mircella will die before Cersei, as Jaime cannot hold any titles, Kevan will take it, or some relative...

But... if Tyrion suports Danny and she gains the throne, Tyrion will be the new Lord.

SPOILERS!

kiwi, hmmmm. Interesting idea of Jaime siding with the Tyrells. I think it might be telling that Jaime reveals to Loras his admiration for Criston Cole... the Kingmaker. Is that merely Jaime wanting to get rid of the odious title Kingslayer and replace it? Or is he making overtures to House Tyrell just as he did to House Bolton?

I see a few problems for Jaime. He wants to redeem his honor, but he's now a major player. Jon Arryn, Eddard, Robb, Barristan, Stannis, Rhaegar, Arthur Dayne, and Jon Connington all played the game with honor and all died in battle, were executed, were assassinated, or forced into exile. The Game of Thrones is a dangerous place for principled men. On the other hand, things have not turned out so well for many of those who've played dirty... Aerys II, Balon, Tywin, Lysa, Gregor, Janos Slynt, and Oberyn. But there seem to be many players thriving or surviving without honor... Middlefinger, Varys, Pycelle, Cersei, Olenna, Arianne, and Euron.

So... can Jaime play the game with honor and win? I doubt it. I'll buy a trebuchet factory before I put money on Jaime regaining his honor. Therefore, I think a power shift in House Lannister from Cersei to Jaime must occur. Without lifting a finger, Jaime can assume the regency... but only with Tyrell backing.

Who is in charge of House Lannister at the moment? It should be Cersei, the Lady of Casterly Rock, but she's a prisoner of the Faith. After her, it's Tommen who is still a minor. Then Myrcella, also a minor. Then mayhaps Kevan. Tygett, Tywin's younger brother and Tyrek's father, has never appeared in the story... but he's out there somewhere. Jaime also has a couple of cousins who are both captains... Damion and Daven, the Warden of the West. But who has the most influence? Who controls the wealth of the Rock? Everyone knows that Tywin still thought of Jaime as his heir. Kevan did not want to openly challenge Jaime and Daven immediately deferred to Jaime at Riverrun.

Genna and Daven both got a glimpse of Jaime's ruthlessness and his inexperience at Riverrun. I think they'll support him.

House Lannister needs someone to rise up and unite their power. Jaime is the only candidate in my book. Lancel, Kevan, and Jaime have seen Cersei for what she is... a short sighted harpy. But will there ever be a reconciliation between Kevan and Jaime? Either Jaime must hand over the entire government to Kevan or Jaime must convince Kevan that he is Tywin reincarnated.

If Mace decides he wants to be both Hand and Regent, then he'll have to fight Jaime. I don't think Jaime can hold off the Tyrells without full Lannister support. But then again, Tyrell control of Tommen and the Iron Throne might unite the Lannisters under one leader.

Without dragons, Westeros is quickly on it's way to becoming Seven Kingdoms.

Regarding the High Septon's champion, I doubt it will be Lancel. He's not a veteran fighter and he's in poor health. The only named character I imagine serving as champion is Ser Bonifer Hasty, captain of the Holy Hundred. After him, I could see the knight-captain of the Warrior's Sons or a hairy, hulking champion of the Poor Fellows championing the Faith.

One other interesting scenario would have pit the Swann brothers in mortal combat. Since Ser Balon wears the white, he could champion Cersei. Remember, Jaime demanded to know what Balon would do if faced with defending Tommen from Ser Donnel the Constant... Alas, it appears that Balon is taking Gregor's head to Doran.

But... if Tyrion suports Danny and she gains the throne, Tyrion will be the new Lord.
Assuming that Tyrion actually turns out to be a Lannister...

Jaime as Champion really that useful to anyone at this point? Missing a hand he's totally getting by on reputation at this point. His priority is not actually having to fight anyone. Which isn't to say that he can't be a player, I think not being a warrior anymore might force him to actually play the game at a higher level now, but it won't be with a sword in hand.

If Qhorin Halfhand could learn to be awesome with his left, why would Jaime not be able to do the same? Hell, he's been learning it throughout AFFC. We've read tidbits of his dueling with Payne, and GRRM is clearly showing us he's getting better and better with his left. The footwork, the stances, ... are all still there. He needs to improve the subtle movements with his left hand, and make movements with his left instead of his right become an automatism.
Not to mention he'll now have a distinct advantage against many swordsmen.
At least i figure it's like in tennis, where most of your opponents are right-handed, making the rare left-handed opponent difficult encounters, because you need to adjust your thinking patterns against them.
