What are some great novels/novellas that mainly focus on one single character? Think of something like I Am Legend as an example.

"Earth Abides" by George Stewart is a possible example but there are other characters that enter the narrative after a while.

And then there's "House on the Borderland" by William Hope Hodgson...but I know you've read that already.

The Shrinking Man by Matheson too if I remember correctly.
Level 7 by Mordecai Roshwald (maybe not great though)
The Underdweller is a short story by William F. Nolan but it is definitely single character.

Stephen King's Bag of Bones and The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon are pretty much single-character novels, and they are both good.
