I understand it's kind of a long shot but I'm looking for any information from a children's science fiction book that would have been from the time frame between the 50 - 70's. Most likely late 50's early 60's. All I know is it had characters in it that resemble the McDonald's "fry guys". It's very important to me that I find this book as I would love to be able to give it to my father on his 60th birthday. My whole life he drew me these little characters, and not knowing the book I called them Fry Guys. I just found out they came from a beloved science fiction book he had as a child. I'm really hoping that someone knows. Please?!? Thank you.

Someone told me it could be The Time Machine but I'm not finding any version from that time line that has the creatures I am thinking of...

Was the book illustrated, or were these characters merely described?

Kind of grasping at straws, but you're not remembering some ancillary characters from the Moomin books?

I can't believe I'm suggesting Moomin things in two threads in a row, but MikeW might be onto something. Are they Hattifatteners, by any chance? That would be from Finn Family Moomintroll, by Tove Jansson.

The other thing that comes to mind is the Shmoo (Al Capp), which would be a bit older. Wikipedia refreshes my memory (I'm not that old) that the Shmoo first appeared in 1948.

What did the characters do in his drawings for you?

Well I looked at the books you suggested above and although they are adorable they aren't what I'm look for. I got a better description and I'm really hoping it will help. He said the book (not in series) is about an alien (he thinks he was trying to be a doctor) and the little Fry Guy rode on his shoulder. Thank you guys for your help and I'm hoping someone can help me find this. He said the thing as a symbiot if that helps.
