I still have to finish this series but would like to know if anyone has picked up any clues as to what SE is going to plan next? Another series? A few stand alones? Maybe some short stories?

Steve has a few plans, you'll be glad to know. First up is a trilogy about the Tiste Andii, particularly based in Karkhanas, long before the main series. The content is hinted at somewhat in The Crippled God, and looks like it should be pretty interesting. He's currently writing the first of those, probably to be published late 2012.

After that, he's planning a trilogy based on the Thelomen Toblakai, though what that will involve is unknown at the moment. It could be Karsa, it could be Ublala, it could be based in a completely different time period. Also, expect more novellas based on Bauchelain and Korbal Broach.

So plenty more to look forward to, worry not :)

Rane - that is some good news, I can imagine how difficult it must be to write such a complex series and still keep producing at regular intervals. I have yet to read books 3 - 10 and will probably instead of doing a re-read just find on the interweb chapter summaries on the first 2 as I am slooooooow at reading as I have mentioned before (wikipedia seems to do book summaries well). I just need to know who is where and why and how and where the continents are plot wise.

If I took a break from reading the next book in the series (due to not getting around to ordering it) I found it pretty difficult to remember where everyone was at. I only did this once so It wasn't so bad. If you can I'd suggest trying to read them one after the other, if your slow or not :p.

Back on this thread. I'm really looking forward to reading more of his work.

What are the ones based on Bauchelain and Korbal Broach like?

If you go on the malazan wiki (either through malazanempire.com it just Google it) there are chapter summaries for the first book and about a quarter of book two. That's about it though unfortunately - if you do find anything else please let us know!!

The novellas are very funny. The first three have now been released in mass-market paperback for the first time in the last few weeks, so it should be easy to get hold of now. And the less said about Crack'd Pot Trail the better, so it good that one isn't in the collection!!
