Need some help guys. I am trying to find a book I read as a teenager. Don't know the author or title. It was set in Louisiana and in France. The main hero character is named Pat Strange. It is a classic good vs evil story and denotes some places in Lafayette and Louisiana that are actual places. I am thinking maybe a Louisiana author or someone who did a lot of research here. There was also a Sheriff Vallot and descendants of Marie Loveau.

'Faid I don't know anything about your loups garous, but I've moved your post to "Book search", where it is more likely to draq response.

Except for the specific character names, I'd say you were talking about Interview With The Vampire, the first in Anne Rice's series.

Also knowing how long ago you were a teenager might help to define the time of the book better.

There is a listing of novels referencing Marie Laveau in Wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Laveau#In_modern_fiction

That would be William W. Johnstone’s Wolfsbane (1982/1987, Zebra). It is a Louisiana set werewolf novel. The lead is named Pat Strange and the book has a sheriff named Vallot.

From a Goodreads review: “We follow Pat Strange, a Vietnam vet who is just so damn cool that even the devil respects him. He is sent by God to save Ducros Parish from a curse that has been put on them by a thirsty-ass witch who performs sex magick…”

If I ever get published, I'm gonna hunt down that Goodreads reviewer and have them blurb my book. Wow.
