Has anyone read his books? I tried The Charm School but it was in those days when I thought Dean Koontz was a god and nothing could compare.

What exactly does he write about and are they action packed or not or what?

I think that he's more of a thriller writer (and a VERY good one). I read a book called the "Lion's Game". Very exciting. Characters were a little bare, but a great story very well written. I believe that the film "The General's Daughter" was based on one of his books.

Yes, "General's Daughter" was one of his. I find him uneven. Lion's Game was good. The one about the virus... think the title was Plum Island was the first I read of his and I recall enjoying it. Some of the later stuff gets long-winded but all in all he's fun.

The Generals Daughter is a great book! I have read a couple of his other books, but wasn't nearly as impressed with them. They were a bit long winded at the beginning and didn't pick up until the very end. Granted its been awhile since I've read any of his books, so my memory could be failing me. I can't honestly remember the names of the other books I tried of his, but The Generals Daughter is the only one that really stuck out for me.

Now that I think more upon it, "Up Country" is in my estimation his best. Maybe since it takes place in Vietnam and he fought there. It's gripping, interesting and has the ring of someone who knows what he's talking about.

I agree with that. I've read a number of his books and enjoyed most of them.

I read The General's Daughter, Plum Island and Spencerville. They were all good, solid reads but not so good that I feel inclined to re-read them.
