My fourth grade teacher read this to us during rainy days. It had to have been published well before 1983. The only part of it that I can recall involved a girl/girls/children who had been captured by Plains Indians (?) and escaped by using a poison that the Natives used to knock out fish in the streams. I'm pretty sure it's not Laura Ingles Wilder/Little House in the Prairie, but I could be wrong. Please help...
