stopped time, gods of order and chaos

This is driving me crazy... I read a fantsy scifi trilogy about a boy who is being raised as cleric for the gods of order, as the gods of chaos have been banished. He finds out that he is the one who is meant to re-awaken the gods of chaos. When this happens, all time in the castle stops. he fingures out how to re-awaken to chaos gods and we find out that they are actually not so bad after all...

I read the series about 20 years ago, but it may have been earlier than that... please help!!!

At last one I can answer...

To me this sounds very much like The Time Master Trilogy by the late Louise Cooper. The series consists of The Initiate, The Outcast and The Master. They follow the story of Tarod who does basically what you have described above.

I loved the series, but thought the ending a bit anti-climactic, something corrected with two subsequent trilogies featuring the same world: The Chaos Gate and Star Ascendant.
