There is a book I really liked a few years ago, but the name and author escape me.

I had borrowed a book from my father a few years ago. I liked it very much, however I cannot remember the name and neither can my dad as he got rid of it in a move.

The books main character is a female who knows very little about herself. She wears gloves, I think to cover up claws? She dances and it puts everyone into a trance. She is staying at either an inn or tavern. She visits the theives' guild. She even steals the underwear off of like the king or something, because she was told she couldnt? I want to say she has brown hair and likes to travel via rooftop.

The city is kinda maze like, on the day she arrives in the city nobody is anywhere to be found, they are all indoors due to some annual demon infestation.

That is just about all I can remember of what the book is about.

Once again, going out on a limb... could it be P. C. Hodgell's God Stalk and Dark of the Moon?
