I know that Gemmell can never be replaced, but in your opinions, which author is most like Gemmell?

Thanks.

Robert E Howard had a pretty similar style. In fact, I believe he was one of Gemmel's main inspirations.

Conn Iggulden is very similar and his main inspiration is Gemmell. He writes historical fiction with a Gemmell style hero.

I have not read any Gemmell, where is a good place to start?

The only who is similar in heroic fantasy, great military action type fantasy is Paul kearney.

Howard is similar in subgenre, type of heroes but he is a fantasy legend and should be read on his own name.

I don't really think it matters as his books tend to stand alone. Even those in series are only loosely connected. The first I read was "Druss: The Legend" and wasn't disappointed.

I like Gemmel's historical fiction, but haven't given his fantasy enough attention yet. Iggulden is similar in that regard for me too :)

Thanks for the replies, there's quite a few authors there to have a look at. Now with the price of e-books being so affordable I'll have a look at all of them.

Connavar,

Right, I'm set, first book off the rank will be 'Ten Thousand' by Kearney.

Menion, thanks for that, will have a look at Dave Duncan as well.
