Essentially the plot points revolve around a sun being that lives inside stars and can create copies of itself in various other stars. This being is rather paranoid of its copies and so it occasionally kills its offspring. Parallel to this is an human colonist who has settled another planet. His story spans several generations (the first being building the colony. the second a dark ages falling on the colony and finally super humans living in orbit around the planet). The left the planet because it became inhospitable after the sun alien sent the star rogue to confuse one of his offspring that was attempting to kill him. What is this books name or author??????
